BJ INDUSTRIES has recently developed a mechanized lid for refining kettles already in service at one of its clients. It allows rapid opening without use of the gantry crane and hence without interfering with production.

Main application: operations where the lid needs to be lifted swiftly and the gantry crane is busy, namely for charging large lead bullion ingots into the refining kettles.

The mechanized lid allows for an independent lifting of the lid and of the stirrer with hydraulic jacks into 3 positions :

• Lid Closed / Stirrer Down (inside lead bath) = Refining operation
• Lid Closed / Stirrer Up (outside lead bath) = Kettle loaded but lead still (partially) solid
• Lid Open / Stirrer Up = Loading operation

The Mechanized Lid is connected to the hygiene filtering system and allows for lateral aspiration of fumes even in the “Open” position.

The mechanized lid can retrofit on existing refining kettles.
